It is the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims who can, fast from just before sunrise to sunset as prescribed in the Holy Qur'an.The Qur'an says simply in a chapter entitled The Cow [2:183]:
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-The picture above captures a woman praying in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the Istiqlal mosque on the first day of Ramadan (August 22, 2009 or Ramadan 1, 1430 in the Hijriah lunar calendar).
