Doubts and Sunday Soul

I met a brutha in Memphis who told me that you cannot just sing the blues you must live the blues.

If you even thinking Elvis then you are so wrong and way beyond not right.

Geez :0)

AnyHowze, the bruthaz words entered my roller-coaster head this morning when I was reminded by a text that sometimes I put up Sunday Soul posts.

I think his words about blues is true for soul too.  You cannot know soul until you have lived soul.

So when you listen to TP's version of this Ashford and Simpson cut you can feel the uncertainty in his voice as he reaches for assurance.

Over the years I have concluded that once you get to doubt a lot of what was has passed already.

The doubt that TP captures is like a life marker that says it is so done.  There is no turning back.

But the uncertainty and doubt is about the beauty of love and being in love.  Until you feel the burn and burnout of a dying love you will never know your heart and its capacity to love again.  And again.

It's been a long time
Since you asked me how was my day
And kissed me before I could say
It's been a long time
Since you told me
If things could change
You wouldn't have it no other way

Onward!

Ps: Nick Ashford passed away on August 22 this year.  He was a Motown giant along with his wife Valerie Simpson.  May his soul rest in peace.
